When I first heard about Baku, Azerbaijan, I had no idea what to expect. I had never traveled to the Caucasus region before, and my knowledge of the country was limited to what I had seen in the news. But after spending a week exploring Baku and its surroundings, I can safely say that it is one of the most beautiful and fascinating destinations I have ever visited.

Baku is a city of contrasts. On one hand, it is a modern metropolis with gleaming skyscrapers and trendy cafes. On the other hand, it is a city with a rich history and culture, evident in its beautiful old town and ancient landmarks. The juxtaposition of old and new is what makes Baku so unique and alluring.

During my trip, I spent most of my time exploring the city's old town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The winding streets are lined with beautiful stone buildings, and the air is filled with the scent of spices and grilled meat. I visited the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a medieval royal palace with beautiful mosaics and intricate carvings. I also visited the Maiden Tower, an iconic structure that has become a symbol of Baku.

Outside the city, I took a day trip to the Gobustan National Park, which is famous for its rock art and mud volcanoes. The park is a surreal landscape of bubbling mud pools and strange rock formations, and the ancient petroglyphs are a testament to the region's rich history.

As I set foot in the city of Baku, Azerbaijan, I knew I had to explore the surrounding areas to truly experience the beauty of this country. One of the must-visit destinations on my list was Cornish, located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.

The drive to Cornish was a scenic one, with the blue waters of the Caspian Sea glistening in the sun on one side and the rugged terrain of the Caucasus Mountains on the other. As we reached Cornish, I was struck by the contrast between the modern buildings of the city and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.

One of the highlights of our visit was the Cornish Ferris Wheel, which offers a bird's eye view of the city and the sea. As we climbed higher, the view became more and more breathtaking, with the city skyline and the vast expanse of the Caspian Sea stretching out before us.

One of the highlights of my trip was a visit to the Flame Towers, three towering skyscrapers that dominate the city skyline. At night, the towers are illuminated with a mesmerizing display of LED lights, creating the illusion of flames flickering in the wind.

But what truly made my trip to Baku unforgettable was the hospitality of the locals. Everywhere I went, I was greeted with warmth and kindness, and I felt welcomed in a way that I had never experienced before. The Azerbaijani people are proud of their culture and heritage, and they are eager to share it with visitors.

Baku, Azerbaijan may not be on everyone's travel radar, but it should be. It is a hidden gem in the Caucasus, a city of contrasts that is both ancient and modern, traditional and progressive. It is a city that will capture your heart and leave you wanting more.
